Match the trip to what you want to see
Kingfisher Bay Resort’s Day Away package uses ferry transfers from River Heads and focuses on the resort’s western beach and facilities. The operator explicitly says this package is not a full-day tour of K’gari. Do not assume it includes inland lakes or a drive along the island’s eastern beach.
If your priority is an inland sightseeing itinerary, compare guided tour options and check the places actually included. Ask about pickup from Burrum Heads rather than assuming a Hervey Bay pickup service extends here.
Allow a full day for the journey
Plan the mainland drive, check-in, island transfers and return connection together. Queensland Parks advises that the island’s sand tracks require an appropriate high-clearance 4WD; vehicle access permits and current conditions also need checking for a self-drive visit.
Use the official park and operator information for bookings and access updates. Leave another day free to enjoy Burrum Heads without a fixed departure time.
